Alphonso Mitchell was born in St. Petersburg, Florida on November 28, 1934 to Mary Lee Mitchell and Daniel B. Mitchell. The middle child, Alphonso, commonly known as “Mitch,” was a young musician playing several instruments including the piano and saxophone. His love for photography also started at a young age and later developed into a professional career.
