Gwendolyn Scott Washington, R.Ph., CDE

Ms. Gwendolyn S. Washington is a native of Lake City, Florida, and a 1969 graduate of the Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Pharmacy.  She matured from a position of staff pharmacist at Bayfront Medical Center in 1970 to Director of Pharmacy at Palms of Pasadena Hospital where she worked until 2002.  Ms. Washington is currently serving as Pharmacy Manager at Reliant Pharmacy of Clearwater, Florida, a national respiratory drugs mail order pharmacy.

Ms. Gwendolyn S. Washington completed post-graduate training in Diabetes Care (1996), and certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) in 1998 by the National Institute of Pharmacist Care Outcomes (NIPCO).  She also received specialty training in Respiratory Care and Diabetes Care from the American College of Apothecaries (ACA).  She was elected President of the St. Petersburg Black Chamber of Commerce and served two terms in 1995 and 1996, and she is currently President and Owner of Gwen’s Elite Travel of St. Petersburg, Florida.  

Ms. Gwendolyn S. Washington has been a prolific leader and motivator of people.  She served as President of the National FAMU Pharmacy Alumni Council from 1993 to 1994, and again from 2004 to 2007.  During her tenure, she oversaw the name transition to the National Diamondback Pharmacy Alumni Council (NDPAC), and successfully managed awarding a $70,000 scholarship drive in 2006.  This led to NDPAC awarding its first $100,000 Alumni Endowment for the FAMU College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2008.  On the plaque acknowledging the Endowment, Gwen is listed as a Platinum Donor

Ms. Gwendolyn S. Washington is the long-standing Convention Chair whose signature meetings and educational programs have become well known for their excitement, cultural stimulation, professional enriching content, and budgetary efficiency.   In April 1989, Ms. Washington was designated a Distinguished Alumnus and inducted into the Gallery of Distinction in the FAMU College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Ms. Gwendolyn S. Washington is married to Mr. Leo Washington, a retired educator and graduate of Bethune-Cookman College.  The couple had two children, Vickie Washington and Cynthia W. Peoples (deceased).  They are also the proud grandparents of two grandsons and great grandparents of a great grandson.
